Job Description

The Dow Chemical Company has an opening in Midland, MI for a Senior Paralegal. The successful candidate will provide paralegal services to support attorneys in the areas of (1) Shared Services, including Supply Chain, Purchasing, Customer Service and I/S; and (2) Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) legal counseling. The job exists to work closely with clients and attorneys to prepare well written, first draft documents and edits to existing documents while taking into account careful attention to detail and deadlines. The candidate should be able to engage in collaborative, constructive discussions about documents and issues to improve work product for the good of the Company. Ability to work independently is critical while maintaining excellent relationships with team members.

Responsibilities will include the following:

Shared Services:

Prepare, route, and file contracts (i.e., start to finish: confidentiality agreements, service agreements among Dow affiliates, amendments/extensions to existing agreements).
Prepare initial drafts and work closely with attorneys on contract comments and reviews of raw materials purchasing contracts and transportation and warehouse contracts.
Review Shared Services communication routings.

EH&S:

Investigate, compile and abstract documents and information to 1) respond to questions related to compliance with environmental, health and/or safety statutes and regulations; 2) draft responses and submit input to federal agencies on proposed regulations; and 3) support Dow attorneys in providing advice on EH&S issues through analysis of legal requirements imposed by governmental agencies.
Depending on skill level, includes research to prepare memoranda to advise clients; assist in coordinating internal activities related to comments on regulations/guidance; track deadlines and status; collect input from Dow and outside sources [e.g., trade associations]; compare with proposed rule and Dow comments; assist attorneys in harmonizing input received and edit drafts.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree AND Paralegal Certificate OR equivalent paralegal experience in specific field of expertise greater than 10 years (and commitment to earn Paralegal Certificate within 2 years)

This is a full time position in Midland, Michigan; a 40-hour work week is typical. Urgent or high volume projects and deadlines may require overtime on occasion. Travel is minimal. Supervisor supports internal training and use of the many Dow resources available for career development. The successful candidate would join a great group of skilled professionals.
